Presentations of Completed Projects
From Thursday, December 2 through Tuesday, December 14, members of our seminar will make presentations of their completed projects. This is an opportunity for each of you to tell the story of your inquiry and to share your insights and discoveries in an engaging way.
1. Gather the evidence of your work, including your project journal, annotated bibliography, and other writings, work samples, etc.
2. Review your work to date, with particular attention to the scope and depth of your exploration. Consider how your ideas have grown, how the focus of your project has shifted (or not), how you’ve overcome obstacles, and how you’ve deepened your grasp of your subject.
3. Think about the story you have to tell. (What have been the highlights of your journey? What have you learned? What is valuable in what you’ve discovered? How do you plan to make use of your findings?)
4. Write an outline or list of talking points.
5. Pull together any visual or auditory aids that will help you to tell the story of your project.
6. Rehearse your presentation. (Your presentation should be about 10-15 minutes in length. Please do not exceed 15 minutes.)

Presentations of Work-in-Progress
At the midpoint of your work on this project, it's time to share your work-in-progress in a 3-5 minute presentation. This is an important opportunity for you to take stock of what you've accomplished so far, invite feedback from your peers, and consider the next steps in your project. In addition, you will sharpen your ability to communicate your ideas in a concise, engaging way.
- Review your work to date and reflect on the development of your ideas and the progress you've made toward your goals.
- Think about the story you have to tell. (What excites you about this project? Where did you start? What challenges have you faced? What discoveries have you made? What lies ahead?)
- Consider how to effectively communicate the essence of your project to people who are not necessarily in your field and may have limited information about your goals. (What do they need to know in order to understand your project? What might help them to understand?)
- Write an outline or list of talking points.
- Pull together any visual or auditory aids that will help you to tell the story of your project. (What evidence of your work so far would be helpful to communicate your ideas?)
- Rehearse your presentaiton. (Your presentation should be about 3-5 minutes. Please do not exceed 5 minutes.)

Time Flies!
A couple of thoughts to send your way.
This is Week 6, so we are more than a third of the way through the fall semester. It's time to look at your progress toward your goal. Are you steadily moving forward? Are you holding yourself accountable? Are you a third or more of the way toward completing your project?
It's easy to say to yourself, "I need to work harder!" or "I need to manage my time better!" Frequently, though, that sort of self-flagellating doesn't do anything but make you feel bad.
Instead, each week, identify tangible tasks that you can undertake. Not, "I need to read more!" but "I will read 3 chapters of Whatever It Takes by Paul Tough and note my observations on my blog." Then, when you work on the next Seminar Prep Sheet, you can note that either you achieved what you set out to do or acknowledge that you didn't.
Use your Seminar Prep Sheet each week as a way to stop, reflect, acknowledge your accomplishments, and figure out which tangible tasks you're going to take on next.

Halp
Hey guys, so I've been working on my free writes and trying to gather something meaningful out of all the crap that comes out. I've found myself writing more poetry type stuff, or some sort of sensory/imagery shit. As you all know, my final project is to create some form of original writing, a short story or book of poems being 2 that I proposed.
My question for you all is, what would you rather read? A short story, or a book of poems? Which one do you think would do better if published? Why? I want to make a decision so that I can start to develop my writing in favor of one or the other (poems vs story telling), instead of just writing whatever and roaming in the wide open pastures of my mind. Please and thank you everyone!

Seminar prep sheet # 4
This week I acomplished - Researching the litt corp program at the Orion center and getting a brake down of the work involved and the possition of GED tuttor for the youth , how long the position rus and the duttys other than tuttor the person has. Went to the writing center to talk about what tuttoering for the GED would be like, what I should do to prep if I were to get the possition. Serched some theater, we site's found them not very informative.
The sorces I consulted were the writing center , the Orion center and googel for the Seattel rep and the Seattel Shakes co.
By next week I want to have acomplished-MAking reakl headway on the resarch about hte theaters in seattel and there curent programs, talikg one on one with an Orion employe, and ploting out a prosal for the position if it is avalibel, also haveing mt interview wit the childrens theater.
The obstacels are always time and also a lack of knowing where to go to get the information I want about the theaters.
I can move forward by dedicating time on the weekend's due to my rehursal shedual.
In this week's siminar Iwant to disscuss, still feeling like the project is multipronged but also thinking that is OK.

Annotated Bibliography
Remember that, on December 2, your annotated bibliography is due.
What is an annotated bibliography?
It's a list of the sources (books, journals, websites, periodicals, interviews, surveys, etc.) that you have consulted in your research, bibliographical information for each (i.e., author, title, publisher, etc.), and a summary and/or evaluation of each source. Depending on your project, your annotations may do one or more of the following:
- Summarize the source.
- Assess the usefulness and reliability of the source.
- Reflect on how the source fits into your research.
Your annotated bibliography should be in MLA form. (For examples, see http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/02/).
Work on your annotated bibliography as you go!
This is not a project to be done at the last minute. You should be working on your annotated bibliography each week as you explore sources. Your annotations should be included as part of your weekly seminar preparation sheets. Then, at the end of the semester, it's just a matter of tidying up and compiling what you've already done.
